As a UF undergrad Lauren studied psychology, but a lifelong love of dance lead her to volunteer with Arts in Medicine. At AIM, she discovered how the arts can bridge the gap between what is medically and spiritually needed in times of illness.
In 1999 she began working as an AIM artist in residence and program administrator. Then in 2006 she became a registered nurse, caring for CF, solid organ transplant, and oncology patients while keeping both artistic and administrative duties with AIM. Seven years later she helped form a unique employment model in which AIM and the department of nursing partner to provide clinical supervision for AIM’s hospital-based services. This model proved essential in sustaining AIM’s in-person bedside practice throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
As AIM’s nurse coordinator, Lauren supports, develops, and evaluates AIM’s clinical practices to ensure safety, quality, and progress. She also participates in shared clinical governance by serving on nursing councils and committees and maintainsn adjunct lecturer appointment with UF Center for Arts in Medicine.
