After majoring in music at the University of Michigan and teaching at the University of Kentucky, Sarah Fouse came to the University of Florida in 1966. From 1966 to 2000, Fouse taught at the University of Florida. She was a performing member of the Florida Baroque Ensemble, the Florida Woodwind Quintet, and the Florida Sinfonietta. Sarah served on the Board of Directors of the National Flute Association from 1974 to 1975 and was Convention Program Chair of the 1975 Convention. She continued to be actively involved with that organization throughout her life. She wrote many articles pertaining to flutes. In Gainesville, Sarah was founder of the Gainesville Flute Ensemble and cofounder of the Florida Flute Association. She performed with the International Flute Orchestra, traveling to and performing in many countries throughout the world, including France, Poland, USSR (then), and China. Fouse passed away on August 19, 2014.
