A native Floridian, Dr. Rachel Matz has served as Principal Tuba of the Tallahassee Symphony since 2009. Prior to her doctoral studies, Dr. Matz lived in Gainesville and taught in local schools as a low brass specialist and served as Principal Tuba of the Gainesville Orchestra, the Gainesville Brass Quintet, and the Florida Wind Band. She has also performed as a soloist with the Gainesville Community Band and the University of South Florida Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Matz holds degrees from the University of Georgia (DMA), the University of South Florida (MM), and Florida State University (BM).
Outside of her music career, Dr. Matz enjoys an active career as an instructor and performer of Middle-Eastern dance.
