The University of Florida Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to the learning of symphonic music through performance. The literature includes established orchestral and choral masterworks, ballets and operas, from the 18th century to the present, by composers of all nations and both genders. In accordance with the research mission of the University of Florida, the Orchestra is also committed to the promotion of new and contemporary as well as noteworthy and overlooked works from the past. With the winning of the ASCAP Foundation Nissim Special Distinction Award in 2013 this objective has been nationally and internationally acknowledged.
The University Orchestra rehearses in the Steinbrenner Band Hall on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:55 pm to 3:50 pm (periods 7 and 8). Course number MUN 1210/3213/6215 for lower, upper, and graduate sections, respectively. Auditions are required for all members of the Orchestra.
