Stage Management

The Stage Management specialization within the BA in Theatre offers students a strong foundation in artistic leadership, organization, and collaboration within a liberal arts framework. Designed for students who want to direct the flow of live performance while gaining a broad academic experience, this path blends classroom learning with intensive, real-world production work.

Students begin with core theatre courses and progress into stage management-specific classes, production practicums, and seminar-style mentorship. The curriculum encourages interdisciplinary exploration, with many students choosing to pursue a second major or minor. Emphasis is placed on inclusive leadership, emotional intelligence, creative problem-solving, and communication—skills that apply far beyond the theatre.

Students benefit from:

  • Hands-on experience managing rehearsals, performances, and full production cycles
  • Opportunities to stage manage dance, musical theatre, drama, and student-directed works
  • Faculty and peer mentorship built into the structure of the program
  • Production roles in up to 12–15 shows per academic year
  • A flexible curriculum that includes electives in design, performance, psychology, and more
  • A strong resume of credits and leadership experience upon graduation

Graduates leave prepared to enter the field of stage management or apply their skills to a wide range of careers and graduate programs. Our alumni have gone on to earn MFAs, receive national recognition, and lead successful careers in the performing arts and beyond.
