Musical Theatre
About the Program
The Musical Theatre program at the University of Florida is one of the most selective in the country, admitting only six new students each year and capping the program at just 24 students in total. Our students get unparalleled individualized training, more performance opportunities (beginning right away during their first year), and the type of care and attention which we believe is a key part of our students’ success here and in the professional world.
Students receive rigorous, well-rounded instruction in singing, dancing, and acting, while also learning the essential off-stage skills that define a modern professional: audition technique, agents and unions, branding, websites and social media, financial literacy, and an understanding of the industry’s “behind-the-table” players and decision-makers.
Our faculty—Broadway-accredited and actively working in the field—bring substantial professional experience and extensive networks that include Tony Award–winning performers, directors, choreographers, top casting offices, and elite talent agencies. Students engage directly with many of these industry leaders through regular classroom visits and workshops every year.
Powered by direct exposure to these industry leaders, targeted training in the professional realities of the business, and a New York Senior Showcase for major agents, managers, and casting offices, our students graduate with their careers already in motion.
Our alumni are performing on Broadway and National Tours, working in film and television, and shaping the industry as creators, producers, directors, writers, choreographers, and arts leaders.
Admission to the musical theatre degree program is based on acceptance to the University of Florida and a faculty-reviewed prescreen audition.
