UF Chamber Music Festival

University of Florida School of Music

August 5–12, 2017

Collaborative playing is without a doubt an essential component of music education. Our festival is aimed at both pre-college and college students who would like to broaden their knowledge of the chamber music repertoire or get in touch with it for the very first time. The faculty will work with various chamber music ensembles during this week of intensive daily coaching, master class, and performance sessions.

Violinists, cellists, violists, and pianists aged 16 and up are welcome to apply. Younger participants will be considered in case their audition materials show an advanced level of playing. Chamber music groups ranging from string duo to piano quintet will be formed based on the pool of applicants. The decision will be made by the entire faculty and will be based on the level of the participants, assessed through the examination of audition videos.

The repertoire for each group (one or more movements or short pieces) will be chosen by the faculty as well and will be made public shortly after the application deadline, in order to give participants ample time to prepare their respective parts.

Each chamber music group will be offered the opportunity to perform at the closing concert in order to show the progress made throughout the festival.

The UF School of Music offers exceptional conditions for practicing as well as performing. Each participant will have unlimited access to practice rooms (with Steinway grand pianos) for the entire duration of the festival. Furthermore, the dormitory and dining hall are both on campus and within walking distance from the School of Music building.
