Voice student is crowned Miss Heart of Florida 2018

While bringing awareness to her platforms, Music Education, Sexual Assault Awareness, and Best Buddies International, School of Music junior Allison Reade was crowned Miss Heart of Florida 2018 this past weekend.

The Miss America Organization divides these pageants into 5 sections, with talent being the largest portion. Reade performed the classic Puccini aria, O mio babbino caro. As a local title holder, Reade is required to compete for the title of Miss Florida in June, and is excited for her year of service as the new Miss Heart of Florida. She hopes to promote the importance of music education in Florida and advocate for more funding for the UF School of Music. Reade thanks her past and current voice teachers Dr. Tony Offerle and Professor Deborah Sperlich, as well as Dr. Silvio dos Santos for preparing her for the interview question about Beethoven's 9th Symphony. She is also grateful for the supportive community of students and teachers in the School of Music that inspire her to speak passionately about the importance of receiving a music education both in youth and collegiate years.
