The UF Music Education program was well-represented at the 2018 National Association for Music Education Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference held in Atlanta, GA.
Dr. William I. Bauer, Area Head and and Professor, participated in editorial board meetings of the Journal of Research in Music Education and served as a mentor during the Society for Music Teacher Education Career Mentoring Workshop. Assistant Professor Dr. Marshall Haning presented his research study titled “Exploring The Use Of Critical Thinking Skills In Middle School Chorus Rehearsals.” Adjunct faculty member and alumnae Sangmi Kang presented several studies, including “Creativity as an Etic Or Emic Phenomenon: A Cross-cultural Examination Of Creativity In Music Compositions In The United States and South Korea,” “Motivation And Preference for Acoustic or Tablet-based Musical Instruments: Comparing Guitars and Gayageums,” "Preparing Preservice Music Teachers for 21st Century Skills: An Examination of Preservice Music Teacher Fieldwork with Their K-5 Students,” and with alumna Hyesoo Yoo she presented “Compositions With vs. Without the Aid of Technology.” PhD student Camilo Leal presented a preliminary study related to his dissertation titled “A Case Study On Two Music Teachers Interactions With The Software Max/MSP as a Tool To Teach Music Composition.” During a pre-conference sponsored by NAfME’s Philosophy Special Research Interest Group, PhD student Andrew Bajorek presented a paper titled “The Matthew Effect and Cumulative Disadvantage in Music Education.”
