Stan Kaye creates lighting design for gallery in UF's new Chemistry Building

School of Theatre + Dance Professor Stan Kaye’s lighting consultancy recently completed customized gallery lighting for the new Chemistry Building on UF's main campus in Gainesville in April 2017.

SK Design and Consulting LLC designed and specified museum quality lighting and controls for TLC Engineering for Architecture of Jacksonville and the University in order to address the specifications of Dr. Howard Sheridan (BS '65). Dr. Sheridan is an award-winning nature photographer who donated 23 prints on aluminum to the University, among other contributions to the Chemistry Building.

The goal was to turn a second floor hallway in the Chemistry Building into a state-of-the-art gallery. Museum quality truthful rendering, sustainability and precise control of luminance values between the artwork and the walls was a critical design feature. The photographs are stunning, and the lighting design exceeded Dr. Sheridan and his wife Brenda’s expectations and makes the building experience even more compelling.
