Gator Marching Band alumni returned to the Swamp for their annual reunion Nov. 2 and 3. Celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Gator Band Alumni Association, former band members rejoined the Pride of the Sunshine for a weekend of activities that included riding a float in the homecoming parade, presenting students with scholarship awards, and rehearsing on the newly completed artificial turf practice field Saturday morning.
Through generous donations, alumni supported the construction of Phase One of the Gator Marching Band Practice Complex, which includes the new field, adequate lighting for evening rehearsals, and a forthcoming covered pavilion. Funding was also provided by the UF Office of the Provost and University Athletic Association.
Alumni and current band members took the field at halftime during the Florida-Missouri football game. The combined band performed You Are My Sunshine, Rockin' Robin and a surprise "Happy Birthday"to UF President Kent Fuchs.
