PhD students and faculty in the School of Music’s Music Education program participated in the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE) Symposium held Sept. 17-19, 2015 at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina. SMTE is a society of the National Association for Music Education and the preeminent organization devoted to the preparation of music teachers at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Presenting their research during the conference were students John M. Peasant (The Gamification of Music Video Games for Music Education); Hyesoo Yoo and Sangmi Kang (Comparisons between Pre-service Music Teachers’ and Classroom Teachers’ Learning Experiences with a Korean Percussion Ensemble); John M. Peasant, Troy V. Jones, Camilo I. Leal and former visiting professor Dr. Stephanie Standerfer (Use of Colloquium Courses in Undergraduate Music Education Courses); faculty member Dr. Megan M. Sheridan (Singing is Elementary: Teachers' Use of Singing in Three Kodály-Based Elementary General Music Classrooms); and faculty member Dr. William I. Bauer with doctoral candidates Sangmi Kang and Hyesoo Yoo (Music Teachers' Approaches to Curriculum and Assessment). Dr. Bauer, as a member of the Journal of Music Teacher Education editorial board, also mentored graduate students from schools throughout the U. S. who had been selected to present their research during the Graduate Research Forum.
