Dr. Kenneth Broadway's summer research brings him to India

Dr. Kenneth Broadway conducted research on sacred musical traditions and percussion performance practice in India during July 2015. Dr. Broadway first visited Vadodara where he met with students and faculty from Maharaja Sayajirao University and attended a workshop/performance in what is called the “classical” Northern India genre. He next traveled to Vasad where he observed traditional Indian music and its adaptation to other sacred traditions at the Vasad Seminary, getting hands-on experience performing with their student ensemble. Finally, he journeyed to Hubli where he took tabla lessons, conducted drumset masterclasses, and worked with musicians on the fusion of Indian and Western styles in sacred music. This research was funded through College of the Arts Research Incentive and Completion Awards.
