College of the Arts Dean Lucinda Lavelli recently met with alumnus Bruce Turkel (BDESF ’80) at his offices in Coconut Grove, Florida. Turkel gave her a copy of his new book, “All About Them,” in which Turkel discusses how businesses can create a compelling brand through storytelling, authenticity and transparency. Turkel has also agreed to join the College of the Arts Council, a group of alumni and supporters who advise the dean on planning, fundraising and development strategies for the college.
Turkel is CEO & ECD of Turkel Brands, which uses a unique combination of creativity and business acumen to help companies build their businesses by making their brands more valuable. He is a serial entrepreneur who has created a number of successful companies. Currently, Turkel is focused on his brand management agency and his Hispanic market advertising agency with 19 offices throughout many Spanish-speaking countries. Turkel is an accomplished author and speaker. He has published three books on branding and marketing – “Brain Darts,” “New Design: Miami” and “Building Brand Value.” He has spoken for Fortune 500 companies including Nike, Toll Brothers and Discovery Channel, at conferences such as DMAI, NAMM, MPI and ProMax, at leading universities including MIT and Harvard, has been interviewed on CNN, FOX, NPR and featured in the New York Times, The Miami Herald and Fast Company Magazine.
Turkel is also a passionate musician and fronts the Miami R&B band, Blackstar. Bruce has never let go of his roots in graphic design and studio art as he also constantly sketching and post his caricatures to TurkelDoodles.com.
