Carillon Studio members visit Birmingham, Alabama

On Saturday, April 1, members of the UF Carillon Studio played a variety of instruments in Birmingham, Alabama. The day included stops at Samford University (a 60-bell traditional carillon built by Royal Eijsbouts), First Presbyterian Church (a traditional carillon of 37 bells consisting of 25 Taylor bells from the original installation in 1924 and 12 bells added by van Bergen in 1961), Cathedral Church of the Advent (15 Paccard bells including 3 swinging bells installed in 2003) and Highlands Methodist Church (a 13-bell traditional chime with 1921 McShane bells). The day concluded with a visit to the Cathedral of St. Paul where studio members attended a change ringing rehearsal and were able to try both a handstroke and backstroke (ring of 8 bells made by Whitechapel, installed in 2006).
