Beth Dover (BA Theatre Performance ‘99) branches out from television to film in her new movie, Life Partners. Released in December, Life Partners is a story of two friends, Sasha and Paige, trying to find balance in their relationship after one finds love.
Dover said she enjoys the universal story of growing up told by the movie as it explores the friendship of Sasha, who is a lesbian, and Paige, who is straight.
“I feel like this is really a step toward showing modern friendships,” said Dover. “I’m really proud of the movie and the message it sends.”
Dover plays Jenn, who she describes as desperate, possessive and jealous, but ultimately perfect for some comedic relief. She said she snagged the role after the writers, Joni Lefkowitz and Susanna Fogel, saw her play a very similar role in the web series Burning Love.
Dover said it was a lovely experience to work with a cast packed full of household names like Leighton Meester and Gabourey Sidibe.
“Everyone was just so happy to be there and work together,” said Dover.
While at UF, Dover played Miranda in The Tempest alongside associate professor Michael “Mikell” Pinkney, Ph.D., in its international tour in Greece. Now living in Los Angeles, she said it was those experiences at UF that gave her the confidence as an actor to try to make it in a big city.
Dover has a laundry list of current and upcoming projects, including News Readers on Adult Swim, Chasing Life on ABC Family, Another Period on Comedy Central and the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black.
