Art of Love: Pamela and Andrew Gates

By Alexa Lore (BSPR '19)

Andrew and Pamela met in 2003 during Gator Band rehearsals through mutual friends. Andrew played the clarinet, and Pamela the piccolo.

“I knew him as the tall, quiet, clarinet guy on bus seven during trips,” Pamela said.

The following year, Pamela (BHS '07, DPT '10) decided to rush Kappa Kappa Psi. She was given Andrew (BSCEN '05, MS '06) as her “big.” They quickly became friends, and their relationship blossomed.

Andrew and Pamela continued to bond with both their love of music and each other while traveling to multiple National Championships to perform with the Gator Band.

After dating for 10 years, they got married. From their time together, Pamela shares her best relationship advice.

“Laugh with each other and laugh at yourself,” she said.

The couple now resides in Indialantic, Florida, and they enjoy Gator football, going to Broadway shows, gardening and kiteboarding. They also have a son, Dylan, who is three months old and they are enjoying being parents of a future Gator Band member.
