Visiting Artist Lecture with Adam Brown

The School of Art and Art History at the University of Florida is proud to present visiting artist Adam Brown as part of the Spring 2017 Visiting Artists Lecture Series. The lecture series is free and open to the public. The event will begin at 6 pm in the Fine Arts Building B, Room 103 (FAB 103). The lectures offer the community at large an important opportunity for dialogue about contemporary art and culture in relation to national and international trends.

Adam Brown's visit is generously supported by contributions from UF College of the Arts Council Members Lois and Mark Rule, UF Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere (Rothman Endowment), UF Biodiversity Institute, UF Genetics Institute (UFGI) and UF Biology Department.

Adam Brown

Adam Brown is an internationally recognized intermedia artist and researcher whose work incorporates art and science hybrids including living and biological systems, robotics, molecular chemistry and emerging technologies that take the form of installation, interactive objects, video, performance and photography.

Brown’s work has been exhibited his work in international venues including Kapelica Gallery in Ljubljana, Slovenia, ZKM, Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe; Ars Electronica, Linz; Espace Multimedia Gantner, Belfort; Synth-ethic, Vienna; ZeroOne, San Francisco; Brazilian Biennial Emoção Art.ficial 5.0, Sao Paulo. His work has been written about widely in publications such as the New York Times, Wired, Nature, Sculpture Magazine, Washington Post, Forbes, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Discover and the Huffington Post. Brown currently is an Associate Professor at Michigan State University where he created a new area of study called Electronic Art & Intermedia.

In addition to an active teaching and research practice, Brown directs the BRIDGE Artist in Residency, a program designed to immerse national and international artists within the creative space of scientific inquiry and research at MSU, connecting the arts, sciences and humanities. He is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Digital Intermedia Arts at Ball State University, and serves as an Artist in Residence for the Michigan State University BEACON (Bio/Computational Evolution in Action Consortium) project, funded by the NSF. He received his BA, MA and MFA from the University of Iowa.
