Romance and Religion
The concert features two important works which sets the stage for the theme.
For Romance, you will hear an important setting of Federico Garcia Lorca’s Romancero Gitano (Gypsy Love Songs) by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. The work is for chorus, soloists and a trio of Classical (Flamenco style) Guitarists. The music is lovely with a very romantic Spanish flare. The guitarist colleagues are Dr. Silvio Dos Santos , Dr. Welson Tremura & Marc Matthews.
You will hear the World Premiere of The Song of the Wandering Aengus (William Butler Yeats) by composition Professor Dr. Paul Richards for a cappella choir.
For the Religious, you will hear John Rutter’s immensely popular and flashy Gloria set for, chorus brass choir, organ and percussion. Featured instrumental colleagues are Prof. Roger Blackburn, Trumpet, Dr. Art Jennings, Trombone, Dr. Kenneth Broadway, Timpani & Dr. John T. Lowe, Jr., OrganistProfessor Roger Blackburn on Trumpet & Dr. John T. Lowe, Jr. on Organ will present the World Premiere of Zdenek Lukas’ Liturgical Song composed especially for Prof. Blackburn.
John Ferguson has created a wonderful modernist setting for a cappella choir and viola of Johann Crüger’s (1598-1662) chorale tune Herzliebster Jesu. Dr. Stephen Fine will be featutred on Viola.
