The concert will be entitled "Shall We Dance?" featuring the UF Symphonic Band under the direction of Professor Jay Watkins and features dance-based works for symphonic band from around the world.
The opening half of the concert will include "Suite of Old American Dances" by Robert Russell Bennet, followed by "Incantation and Dance" by John Barnes Chance, which will be guest conducted by Mr. Garrett Griffin, a Masters in Conducting student at UF who is originally from North Carolina, where the work was initially premiered. The first half of the concert will conclude with "Four Scottish Dances" by the legendary British composer Sir Malcolm Arnold.
The second half of the concert will open with "Fiesta', the Symphonic Dance No. 3 by Clifton Williams, featuring all of the sounds of Latin America, followed by "Bandancing" by Jack Stamp - a collection of dance styles you'd find in a night of ball-room dancing, and will close with Dmitri Shostakovich's classic take on Russian dance, his "Folk Dances."
