The Divine: A Play for Sarah Bernhardt
Jan. 27-29, Feb. 3-5, 2017
Constans Theatre
Written by Michel Marc Bouchard
Translated by Linda Gaboriau
Directed by David Young"A play rich in character and story featuring plenty of comedy," says the New York Theatre Guide about the premiere of The Divine at the 2015 Shaw Festival. This new play by acclaimed Canadian playwright Michel Marc Bouchard tells the story of Talbot and Michaud, two Quebec City seminarians from opposing social classes with conflicting ideas about life, religion and art. Their beliefs are upended by a visit and performances by the legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt. The social mores of the nineteenth century face off against the rising tide of the twentieth in this historical play with surprisingly contemporary relevance.
