PIANIST. PSYCHIATRIST. HISTORIAN.
Richard Kogan excels at two of the world’s most complicated and nuanced professions. He’s not only a concert pianist; he’s also a clinical psychiatrist, having earned degrees from both Juilliard and Harvard Medical School.
Kogan performs lecture-recitals in which he explores the influence of psychological forces as well as medical and mental illness on the creative output of the great composers while expertly playing their works. His performances delve into the minds and music of Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, and George Gershwin, just to name a few.
Each evening will be dedicated to the work of a different composer. The March 19th program is The Mind and Music of George Gershwin. The March 20th program is Beethoven’s Deafness: Psychological Crisis and Artistic Triumph.
