Black Like He is a tapestry that explores the intricacies of life from the unique lens of Black men. Through simple moments and complex emotions, a universal humanity is revealed and woven together with poetry, music and dance. Written and directed by Darius V. Daughtry and featuring some of South Florida's finest talent, Black Like He is a journey filled with joy, struggle, love and truth. Black Like He was a part of an initiative that highlights βthe arts as a tool or catalyst to heighten awareness, deepen knowledge, and mobilize action.β This performance by Art Prevails Project will include post-show discussion with the author and artists.
Communities often hold the solutions to their most pressing challenges and concerns, but how often are we listening, and how deeply? Recovery in Community centers the voices and experiences of historically marginalized communities, artists and creatives, and students in a way that speaks to the universality of the human experience. Through engaging with the arts and other resources, participants will get to explore ways to address some of the most elevated concerns exacerbated in the age of COVID-19: namely social isolation, collective trauma, and mental health.
