    Join us, Thursday, March, 11 at 6 pm, for the launch of Clothing the New World Church: Liturgical Textiles of Spanish America, 1520–1820, published in February 2021 by the University of Notre Dame Press.

    The book provides the first broad survey of church textiles of Spanish America and demonstrates that, while overlooked, textiles were a vital part of visual culture in the Catholic Church. Presentation by author Maya Stanfield-Mazzi, Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Florida. She is also the author of Object and Apparition: Envisioning the Christian Divine in the Colonial Andes (University of Arizona Press, 2013).

    Discussion with Rosario I. Granados, the Marilynn Thoma Associate Curator of Art of the Spanish Americas at the Blanton Museum of Art, the University of Texas at Austin. She is the curator of the upcoming exhibition Painted Cloth: Ritual and Fashion in Colonial Latin America at the Blanton.
