Dr. Branden W. Joseph, Frank Gallipoli Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art, Columbia University
Dr. Joseph will lecture on the cross-disciplinary work of the artist and musician Kim Gordon. Focusing upon Gordon’s early critical writings (which Joseph edited in 2014) and hybrid artistic practice with such collaborators as Vikky Alexander and Dan Graham, the talk will elucidate Gordon's subtle engagements with the legacies of modern design, appropriationist practice, and postmodern discourse, as well as her perceptive deployments of punk rock icons and pop-cultural fandom.
This lecture is presented in conjunction with the exhibition In, Of, From: Experiments in Sound at the University Gallery, School of Art + Art History, and is part of the series “Art’s Inclusive Histories: In Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.”
