Dr. Aruna D'Souza, Independent Art Historian, Curator, and Art Critic
Dr. D’Souza will lecture on the work of feminist performance and conceptual artist Lorraine O’Grady (b. 1934). Editor of O’Grady’s collected essays, Writing in Space, 1973–2019 (Duke University Press, 2020) and curator of her forthcoming retrospective, Lorraine O’Grady: Both/And (New Museum, Spring 2021), Dr. D’Souza explores how O’Grady’s work addresses issues of hybridity, Black female subjectivity, and non-binary “both/and” thinking.
This lecture is part of the series “Art’s Inclusive Histories: In Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.”
