Join the School of Music for a Guest Artist Recital by guitarist Jason Mullen on February 26, 7:30 p.m.
Jason Mullen's (MM. San Francisco Conservatory of Music) widespread musical interests serve as a foundation for his playing, teaching, and research. Through a comprehensive understanding of the guitar and its literature, Jason has immersed himself in a myriad of styles ranging from early music to electronica. His current research centers on nineteenth century vocal works (opera, Lieder, folk-songs) as they relate to the compositional output of the guitarist-composer. Jason embraces the guitar as a genre-bending instrument capable of mirroring orchestral qualities, while continuing to rely on its inherent idiomatic strengths. He has shared his expertise and taken part in festivals and workshops throughout the US and abroad. Professional affiliations have included: The Santa Fe Opera, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, and George Mason University. Jason plays guitars by luthiers Robert Ruck and Michael Thames.
