This course engages participants in exploring innovative ways to accomplish traditional objectives. While all band directors acknowledge the importance of teaching listening skills, many teachers lack specific strategies for developing students’ audiation and building ear-to-horn connections that enable students to play what they hear and to audiate notated music before they play it. Throughout the week, we will incorporate techniques adapted from Music Learning Theory, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, and Ed Lisk’s Alternative Rehearsal Techniques to develop rhythmic literacy, tonal awareness, technique, range, tone, intonation, and sight-reading fluency. Participants will learn how to design lead sheets to equip students with the skills needed to play challenging repertoire.
