    Diane Barger and Denise Gainey, clarinets
    Assisted by Christopher Steele, piano

    Formed out of friendship, the Amicitia Duo brings music for clarinet to a wide variety of audiences featuring clarinetists Diane Barger, UNL’s Hixson-Lied professor of clarinet, and Denise Gainey, University of Alabama at Birmingham’s associate professor of clarinet. Amicitia is the Latin word for friendship and is pronounced “ah-mee-KEE-tee-ah”. With a friendship that spans over thirty years, Barger and Gainey combine their love of music and teaching to delight audiences around the world. With UAB pianist Dr. Christopher Steele, the Amicitia Duo’s recital will feature music from the classical era, Franz Krommer’s Concerto in B-flat Major, op. 35, through the Romantic period, Felix Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece No. 2 in D minor, op. 114, and Amilcare Ponchielli’s Paolo e Virginia and beyond with music by Mauricia Murcia Bedoya, Michael Kibbe and Gary Schocker.
