A Table of Contents by Emmanuel Opoku
Installations from UF Sculpture MFA student Emmanuel Manu Opoku will be on display in the Constance and Linton Grinter Gallery of International Art at the University of Florida from Sept. 2, 2019 to Nov. 8, 2019.
A Table of Contents includes 4 installations that explore Opoku’s interest in found objects and the way they are representative of culture.
"With my background as a painter, the work is painterly thought through, drawing inspiration from the works of Sean Scully and Attah Kwame as well as the Ashanti Kente Weaving. With concept of individual value as my ultimate inspiration for the process of collection, I re-contextualize the objects to navigate my logic understanding of materiality, space and history," said Opoku. “The installations invite viewers to read their own meanings into familiar objects that have been transformed."
Opoku graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a BFA in Painting and is a current UF student pursuing his MFA in Sculpture.
