Dr. Joana Hyatt earned her Ph.D. in Art Education from the University of North Texas, where she was awarded the Priddy Fellowship. In 2018, Joana was honored by the Texas Art Education Association and named, Outstanding Art Educator for the Higher Education Division. Dr. Hyatt has been a K-16 art educator for over twenty years, teaching in Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas. Her research interests and teaching emphasize arts-based research, narrative inquiry, performative critical pedagogy, critical theory, inquiry-based curriculum, and evaluation approaches. Dr. Hyatt has published in Art Education,The Journal of Social Theory in Art Education, Trends, and has a chapter featured in, P. Sameshima, B. White & A. Sinner (Eds.), Ma: Materiality in teaching and learning. She currently serves as the Chair of the Professional Learning through Research Working Group (PLR) under the NAEA Research Commission. Additionally, Joana serves on the Editorial Review Board for Art Education, The Journal of the National Art Education Association.
