Overview

School of Music Harmony Initiative: A Stage For All Voices

As we know, Harmony is a term associated not only with musical structure, but also often with interpersonal congruity and collaboration. As efforts continue to generate broad-based and impactful curricular and co-curricular experiences for our students, among the more meaningful paths we can pursue is the inclusion of often overlooked areas of study, scholars, composers, and performers. We believe that students and faculty members are in an ideal position to initiate such initiatives.

To that end, The School of Music Harmony Initiative is aimed at advancing often overlooked creative and scholarly interests, thereby broadening the work being done within our teaching studios, classrooms, and on our concert stages.

The initiative encourages such things as:

  • Music
  • Classroom materials
  • Research materials
  • Support for special events in the SOM
  • Guest speakers, performers, composers, conductors
  • Support for community engagement—public school performances, presentations, etc.

Students, faculty, and staff are strongly encouraged to submit proposals for Harmony Initiative support directly to the School of Music director.
