A scoping review of arts-based interventions with community based participatory research approaches for addressing mental health amongst adolescents in the United States

Abstract

The objective of this scoping review is to understand the extent and type of evidence in relation to the impact of arts-based interventions with community based participatory research approaches on addressing mental health amongst adolescents in the United States. While mental health ailments remain amongst the leading causes of disability and illness in adolescents, art-based practices offer an effective solution. Additionally, community-based methods ensure that the approach is equitable in practice. No forms of literature reviews have yet explored these concepts. The results will detail concepts included within the data extraction instrument developed for this project protocol as it relates to studies which meet both inclusion and exclusion criteria. A general interpretation of the review findings in line with the review’s objectives will be expanded upon. Additionally, any limitations of the review as well as key implications of the findings for practice and research will also be detailed.
