Conferences and Symposia: Reflecting on Arts Practices as Dimensions of the Human Experience

The Center presents, partners, and participates in conferences and symposia to bring critical issues in contemporary artistic practice to publica audiences worldwide. Several examples include:

Conversation without Words: Tango, Contact and Communication — Department of Biology and Center for World Arts at the Harn Museum of Art, University of Florida, April 2015

The Contemporary African in the Performing Arts: Theoretical, Poetical and Educational Perspectives, Universidade Estadual Paulista – UNESP, Sao Paolo, Brazil, March 31-April 4, 2015. The Center is grateful to UNESP for painstakingly translating into Portuguese and subtitiling MOVEMENT (R)EVOLUTION AFRICA for the colloquium screening, and for desseminating the subtitled film to dance programs in Brazil. The central aim of the colloquium was to increase the dialogues among artists, researchers and educators dedicated to the studies of contemporary Afro-Brazilian and African diasporic cultures and their insertions with the field of Performing Arts. This international meeting intended to share and compare different approaches and research methodologies, theoretical perspectives, political engagements and poetic creations.
