Communications Interns

Join Our Team

The University of Florida College of the Arts welcomes student candidates for academic internships in strategic communications to be multimedia storybuilders and content curators. The internship is presently unpaid.

Requirements:

  • Interns must be seeking academic credit or an official internship requirement for their degree program

Why you are a good fit:

  • You are a strong team communicator. You are realistic with your progress on assignments and can work independently to meet deadlines but ask for help when needed.
  • You have a creative mindset. You are willing to experiment with new ideas, participate in iterative processes, and accept and provide critique. You understand that sometimes we generate 100 ideas and throw 99 of them out to find best one that works.
  • You are a good listener. You find ways to center the voices of others and want to include stakeholders as participators in developing content and communications deliverables.
  • You have a commitment to fostering an accessible, equitable, and inclusive environment. From writing alternative text on social media photos to advocating for stories that need to be told, you are interested in shaping and upholding the values of the College of the Arts and its community members.

What you might do on any given day:

  • Brainstorm, create, and collect content for the college’s social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook @UFCOTA. From conception to posting, you will work with the supervisor to write captions and alt text, design Instagram Stories, curate photos, source content from students, plan mini-campaigns, and report analytics.
  • Interview students, faculty, and alumni about their work and experience and craft written, audio, video, and/or photographic stories for web, social, print, and other formats.
  • Seek out opportunities to capture and uplift the student experience, faculty research and creative work, and college initiatives that center access, equity, and inclusion as functional catalysts.
  • Take and edit photos and videos of classes and events.
  • Utilize project workflow software, including Airtable, to communicate about projects, plan social media content, and get approvals.

  • Interviewing techniques
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and InDesign)
  • Canva and other social media and creative tools
