Graduate Advising
Your Advisor
Graduate advisors in the School of Music are a valuable resource. Their primary role is to help you choose appropriate courses to ensure timely graduation. They can also register you for classes. You are welcome to email quick questions or registration requests (don’t forget to include your UFID), or schedule an appointment to meet with us. New students are required to meet with an advisor in person during their first semester for course registration.
- Master’s students are advised by Dr. Laura Ellis.
- Doctoral students are advised by Dr. Imani Mosley.
Registration Process
Course registration is completed online through the ONE.UF system. New students must meet with their advisor in person for first-term registration. After that, you may register yourself online or continue working with your advisor for registration support
Be sure to take your courses in the correct sequence to stay on track for graduation. Many courses have prerequisites, and some are offered only once per year—or less. Stay in touch with your advisor each semester to avoid delays.
For New Students
- Fall: Registration takes place during the two days before classes begin.
- Spring/Summer: New student registration is held one day before the start of classes.
For Returning Students
- Advance registration typically opens near the end of each term for the following semester.
- Try to register before the current term ends.
Holds
Check ONE.UF for any holds on your record, and make sure they are cleared before contacting your advisor. We cannot register you if there are holds on your account.
