Transfer Students
Eligibility:
- Applicants must satisfy all University of Florida Transfer Admission Requirements – You are not eligible if you have fewer than 60 semester credit hours or have already completed a bachelor’s degree. In this case, you should consider applying for a UF Online Program or to one of UF’s graduate, professional or postbaccalaureate programs.
- 2.5 GPA Minimum for Music Education or 2.0 GPA Minimum for all other degree tracks.
- Minimum 60 credit hours or Maximum 90 credit hours (AP, IB, AICE, Dual Enrollment, and Transfer Credit).
Students with a minimum 60 credits and maximum 90 credits (with or without AA)
Upper Divisional (Pre-Professional)
Upper Divisional (Pre-Professional) students have an AA or at least 60 hours at the time of matriculation, but HAVE NOT completed the required pre-professional coursework listed in Step 4. This includes students who have transferred from other institutions that do not offer music programs, or students who have not successfully completed the theory, piano, applied lesson requirements, etc. All students auditioning at the “Pre-Professional level” will take a theory exam during the selected audition day. A student admitted as pre-professional may be assigned coursework for remediation.
Upper Divisional (Professional)
Upper Divisional (Professional) students have an AA or at least 60 hours at the time of matriculation, and HAVE complete the required coursework listed in Step 4. All students auditioning at the “Professional level” will take a theory exam during the selected audition day. Students who do not display sufficient competencies may be admitted as pre-professional and must complete coursework assigned for remediation.
Students with fewer than 60 credits or greater than 90 credits
Lower Divisional students with fewer then 60 credit hours
Due to space limitations, UF is not currently accepting lower-divisional transfer students. Prospective transfer applicants are encouraged to remain at or to transfer to a Florida college until the AA degree is completed.
Advanced Upper Divisional with greater then 90 credit hours & Second Degree Students
Students who have greater than 90 credits or a completed bachelor’s degree will not be admitted. Please consider the University of Florida for graduate degree programs.

Do I need to audition?
An audition is required for all students applying for any of the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts, Music Education, and Bachelor of Science degrees or a performance minor. Students interested in applying for the Bachelor of Science in Music Business and Entrepreneurship must also submit a portfolio.
It is not possible to become a music major if the student does not exhibit sufficient performing competence.
Music Business & Entrepreneurship Requirements
Audition & Portfolio Requirements
Applicants to the Bachelor of Science in Music Business & Entrepreneurship must complete both a performance audition and a portfolio submission.
Your application must include:
- A portfolio demonstrating a range of musical experiences and skill sets through audio, video or print materials. These may include examples of recording, producing, management, promotion or leadership relevant to an intensive music business/entrepreneurship curriculum.
- An instrumental or vocal audition in at least two contrasting musical styles. Auditions should demonstrate a level of musicianship appropriate for collaboration in commercial, world and traditional music ensembles. Improvisational skills are welcome but not required.
- Sight reading on your primary instrument or voice to demonstrate music literacy required for success in core courses (theory, aural skills and keyboard skills).
- A music theory placement test, consistent with all music major auditions.
- At least one letter of recommendation from someone familiar with your musical work.
- An interview with School of Music faculty as part of the admissions assessment.
Equipment Provided
The audition and interview room includes:
- A 12-channel mixing board
- Microphones
- A piano
- Several quarter-inch jack cables for amplified instruments
- A high-quality audio system for playback of tracks or backing tracks
Backing Tracks
Many students prefer to audition using play-along or YouTube backing tracks. If your track is not available online, please bring it on a flash drive. We’ll play your track directly from the drive.
Auditioning on Drum Set
A basic drum set is provided for all drum set auditions.
FAQs
Q: Do I need to bring my own amplifier for guitar or bass?
A: No. You can plug directly into our sound system. If you prefer to use your own amp, you’re welcome to bring it.
Q: Do I need to bring quarter-inch jack cables?
A: No. Cables will be set up and ready in the audition room.
Q: Can I play my backing track from my phone?
A: We recommend bringing your track on a flash drive, as Bluetooth compatibility can vary. YouTube tracks are also fine if they are easily accessible online.

Pre-Screening Requirement (Piano Only)
Submission Deadline:
January 15, 2026
Submit a video recording of at least 10 minutes of recent piano performance (recorded within the past six months). Your recording should include at least one complete piece or movement, though you may include multiple pieces if desired.
Videos must be submitted to music@arts.ufl.edu via video sharing platform such as YouTube or Vimeo link (please double-check visibility is set to ‘unlisted’ or ‘public)
Memorization is mandatory.
You may choose to perform the same pieces in your live or recorded audition if invited, but this is not required.
If you choose to submit a recorded audition, you may use any or all of your pre-screening recording as part of your final video submission.
BS Music Business and Entrepreneurship Portfolio

Prior to attending an audition, students interested in the BS Music Business and Entrepreneurship degree must submit a portfolio. Please review the portfolio materials above. All portfolio materials, including audio/video recordings via cloud service or YouTube/Vimeo links must be submitted to music@arts.ufl.edu. Please double-check visibility of shared documents/videos is set to ‘unlisted’ or ‘public’.
Alternate or Recorded Audition

Participation in one of the scheduled audition days is highly recommended, but individual auditions can also be arranged through the Office of Music Admissions in unusual circumstances. STEP 4: Complete the Recommendation for Prospective Student Form

Must be submitted prior to student’s audition.
Have a prior music instructor or someone who knows you in a musical capacity complete the Recommendation for Prospective Student form. The form must be emailed to music@arts.ufl.edu. Information regarding the submission can be found on the form.
