Sculpture

Overview

Let your sculpture shape you.

Sculpture at UF is rooted in experimentation, material exploration and expanded definitions of form. We start with a strong foundation in three-dimensional processes and move toward installation, performance, public art and media-based work. Here, sculpture is not just about objects, it’s about ideas, environments and the impact of space, time and context.

undergraduate degrees

  • BA in Art
  • BFA in Art
  • Art Minor

The undergraduate program in sculpture provides you with a deep investigation into contemporary sculpture, including its history, theory, techniques and evolving role in culture. Courses explore traditional and experimental methods alike, encouraging you to find your own voice through the cycle of conceptualization, making and critique.

You’ll study:

  • Fabrication techniques, material exploration and spatial thinking
  • Conceptual strategies across performance, installation and public art
  • The social, historical and cultural frameworks of sculptural practice

At the 4000-level, you’ll prepare for life after graduation by building a professional portfolio—including an artist statement, resume, documentation and promotional materials.

Students graduate with strong studio skills and the confidence to contribute to contemporary sculpture’s most vital conversations—locally, nationally and beyond.

Graduate degrees

  • MFA in Art

The graduate program in sculpture is a professional studio program focused on helping you develop a significant, cohesive body of work. You’ll deepen your conceptual understanding, technical fluency and critical perspective while pursuing an individualized path shaped by your interests and long-term goals.

You’ll be supported in:

  • Working in any medium, including performance, installation, environmental sculpture and public art
  • Building cross-disciplinary connections and incorporating other practices into your work
  • Engaging in critique, mentorship and independent studio development

The program emphasizes creative risk-taking, cultural awareness and sustained inquiry. No single style, material or theoretical approach is privileged—only the strength of your ideas and the quality of your work.
