The future of photography starts here.
Creative photography at UF is one of the most established programs of its kind in the country—known for blending experimental approaches with deep theoretical engagement. You’ll work closely with internationally recognized faculty who are artists, scholars and media thinkers. Here, photography is not just a technique—it’s a cultural force that shapes how we see, feel and understand the world.
With an emphasis on innovation, collaboration and critical inquiry, this area of study encourages work that crosses boundaries—between disciplines, media and ideas.
As an undergraduate in creative photography, you’ll develop your voice through thoughtful critique, hands-on experimentation and research into the theories and histories that shape photography today.
In this program, you are encouraged to:
Your work will be shaped by what you bring to it—and strengthened by faculty mentorship, peer dialogue and access to cross-disciplinary resources.
As a graduate student, you’ll pursue independent research that merges photography with time-based media, performance, theory and thematic exploration. Faculty mentorship, critiques and studio visits support the development of a critically engaged and interdisciplinary practice.
You’ll be encouraged to:
You’ll also have opportunities to create collaborative projects and partnerships—whether with fellow students, other academic fields or communities beyond the university.
