Bachelor of Arts in Art
Explore, experiment, create.
If you want to combine art with other interests or degrees, then the BA in Art is designed for you. You will learn technical skills, experiment with materials, develop your conceptual thinking, gain fluency with the ideas that animate contemporary art, grow your artistic practice, and unfold your unique artistic voice. At the same time, the flexible curriculum will allow you to take advantage of the wide range of other opportunities at UF. You are encouraged to explore other disciplines and pursue a certificate, a dual degree, or the requirements for professional school.
Graduates of the program pursue creative careers, or they use their creativity, visual acuity, and maker skills to support graduate studies in a wide range of fields from business to medical or veterinary school to counseling or the sciences.
As part of this program, you will:
- Begin with our nationally recognized Workshop for Art Research and Practice (WARP) to jump start your creative thinking, artistic problem-solving, and engagement with contemporary art.
- Build your foundations in 2D and 3D media.
- Learn to give and receive critique and to improve your work through constructive dialogue with peers, instructors, and your audience.
- Shape your artistic journey through electives in ceramics, creative photography, digital and electronic media, drawing, generative AI, installation, painting, performance, printmaking, and sculpture.
- Take advantage of opportunities to show your work in our exhibition spaces and beyond.
- Combine studio art with courses across disciplines in the arts, sciences, humanities, or professional studies.
- Create a capstone project in Senior Studio to culminate your degree.
BFA vs. BA
BFA: 2/3 of your coursework in Art. Ideal if you want to fully invest in an artistic career. Dedicated studios for seniors. Exhibit your capstone project in the BFA Thesis Exhibition.
BA: Less than half of your coursework in Art, offering more flexibility. Ideal if you want to pursue Art in combination with a dual degree, certificate, minor, or other curricular and extra-curricular pursuits. To access the upper-level electives you want, consult with an advisor early to plan to take the prerequisites.
