Application Information
There is no separate application required for graduate assistantships or fellowships.
To be considered, indicate your interest within the UF online application and address your qualifications in your statement of purpose. All applicants must also submit a résumé or CV, which is used to match available assistantship opportunities with your experience, skills, and strengths.
Note: Teaching assistantships are typically awarded beginning in the second year of study unless you have prior teaching experience.
Notice of Awards
Graduate assistantship and fellowship awards are determined during the faculty admissions review process. Our goal is to include any funding offer in your official admission letter. However, in some cases, funding decisions may be delayed or you may be placed on a waitlist. If this occurs, it will be clearly noted in your admission letter.
Note: Due to limited funding, not all qualified applicants receive an assistantship or fellowship. If you accept admission without a funding award, it is unlikely that you will receive one later. You may, however, express continued interest to be considered during the next review cycle.
Financial Aid (NOT Assistantships or Fellowships)
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opens each year on October 1. While you must be admitted before receiving aid, we encourage you to submit your FAFSA early—even before your admission decision—to avoid delays.
To be considered for scholarship opportunities, complete the FAFSA well before the December 15 priority deadline. This allows the federal processor time to evaluate and send your information to UF Student Financial Aid. Applications for federal loans may still be submitted after this date and are accepted throughout the year.

Note: Federal financial aid is available to U.S. students only. International applicants should consult the UF International Center for available resources.
