Interdisciplinary Research lab
The Center for Arts in Medicine’s Interdisciplinary Research Lab is a dynamic team of undergraduate and graduate students, research associates and faculty from the arts, health sciences and related disciplines.
With faculty mentorship, students assist on interdisciplinary studies and are supported in designing and conducting their own research. The lab fosters collaboration, builds research and leadership skills, and encourages creativity in exploring how the arts intersect with health.

The lab is actively engaged in a range of studies and welcomes participation from undergraduate and graduate students, as well as non-students. Research areas include qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches that explore how arts and culture support public health and healthcare goals.
Ongoing research projects examine:
- The impact of arts and cultural engagement on social cohesion
- Case studies and outcome research in arts on prescription
- Mechanisms by which arts participation affects individual and community health and well-being
Research assistants contribute to a variety of tasks, including literature reviews, data collection, data analysis and writing.
The team meets every Friday from 2:00–4:30 p.m. (ET) during the academic year, remotely via Zoom.
The lab recruits new members each spring semester. For questions about the lab or the application process, contact Nicole Morgan at nmorgan@arts.ufl.edu.
