Stephanie Silberman

Stephanie Denise Silberman is a doctoral student studying contemporary Japanese visual culture with Dr. Douglas Gabriel. Her topics of interest include the complicated intersections of visual culture with race and gender, generational trauma, postwar art, the realm of the imaginary, global consumption of anime and manga, the modern woman in the avant-gardes of East Asia, the use of pink in kawaii, and the role of women artists and writers. She graduated with a M.A. in Art History from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a thesis titled “Post‐Murakami: Depictions of Cute Young Women in Contemporary Japanese Visual Culture” and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Florida. She has previously worked at the Harn Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and Norton Simon Museum of Art. She is currently the Strategic Events Manager for the College of the Arts.
