Maile McCall

Maile grew up in Neptune Beach, FL and moved to Mililani, HI in high school. She received her undergraduate degree in history and anthropology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. During her undergraduate career, Maile completed a field school at Volcanoes National Park, worked as an archaeology lab assistant, and interned in the collections department at the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives. In addition to her M.A. in Museum Studies, Maile is pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation with the UF College of Design, Construction, and Planning.

Maile has research interests in collections accessibility, material culture, historical epistemology, and exhibit development. Her project-in-lieu-of-thesis (PILOT) centered the career archive of Dr. Kathleen Deagan, currently housed in the historical archaeology collections department at the Florida Museum of Natural History (FLMNH). For her PILOT, Maile processed and indexed the archive, conducted a 3-part oral history series with Dr. Deagan, and curated an exhibit currently on view at UF Marston Science Library. The theoretical basis of her PILOT is drawn from postmodern archival theory and principles of Universal Design.

Maile currently interns with the exhibit development team in the Exhibits and Public Programming Division of FLMNH. Past internships of hers include Library of Congress Business Section Junior Fellow and historical archaeology archival intern at FLMNH.
