Jiwon Seo
- School of Art + Art History
Jiwon Seo is a first-year doctoral student studying modern and contemporary Korean art with Dr. Douglas Gabriel. She holds a BA in French Language and Literature from Chung-Ang University and an MA in Arts Management (Art Theory track) from Seoul National University. Her master’s thesis repositioned Seundja Rhee as a constitutive voice in postwar French abstraction and foregrounded the material agency of printmaking in her practice. Her current research examines the self-positioning of women artists amid the uneven circulation of images and discourses. She attends to how state mythmaking, the fragmentary afterlives of Cold War visual culture, and translation inflect the production and reception of their work. These inquiries are informed by her curatorial and archival experience at the Seoul Museum of Art, the Gwangju Biennale, the Korea Foundation, and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
