George Salazar, a graduate of the University of Florida’s School of Theatre and Dance, is starring in the premiere of “Broadway Bounty Hunter.” The show focuses on Annie Golden, who plays Norma in “Orange is The New Black,” and the hardships she faces finding roles in Hollywood for women her age. Golden gets scouted by a group of bounty hunters that take her to the jungles of South Africa to stop a notorious drug lord. She works alongside a character named Lazarus, the toughest and most dangerous of all the bounty hunters.
“I play one of the bounty hunters, a fast talking ball of energy named Sparkplug,” said Salazar. “I'm incredibly excited to be a part of this new piece. There's really nothing like creating a role, and being a part of the development of a new piece. As an actor, I'm constantly challenged and forced to think on my feet because every rehearsal brings a series of script and score revisions to the table.”
The production was written in in the style of Kung-Fu and Blacksploitation films of the 70's, and will be showcased at Barrington Stage Company until Sept. 4. After this Salazar plans on traveling to Signature Theatre in Washington, D.C. to be in the musical premiere of “Freaky Friday.”
