Dr. Kristen Stoner was a featured performer, conductor, adjudicator and composer at the 44th Annual National Flute Association Convention, held in San Diego, California. She performed a ten-minute unaccompanied work by contemporary American composer, Rand Steiger. Her Muse Duo, with Marcela DeFaria Casaubon, performed the world premiere of Stoner’s new Cape Cod Suite for flute duet. She also performed in a small ensemble honoring Lifetime Achievement Award winner, composer Katherine Hoover.
Stoner also conducted the 2016 NFA Collegiate Flute Choir, including two world premieres and one NFA premiere. These students were selected by recorded audition as winners of a national competition and they came from universities across the country. They began the program with an arrangement of Albeniz’s Leyenda. The group then performed Stoner’s arrangement of Gounod’s Petite Symphonie. The group was honored to perform the world premiere of Charles Fernandez’s A Quiet House and a Mouse, winner of the 2016 NFA Flute Choir Composition Competition.
They performed the NFA premiere of Christopher Kuhns's beatbox flute choir arrangement of Saint-Saens’s Bacchanale. They finished the performance with the world premiere of Jose Valentino’s Spanish Flamenco.
