The UF Chinese Ensemble presents a program with innovative repertoires and new mixtures of sound to enhance a musical experience beyond the traditional. This program focuses on the historical characteristics of Chinese music and musical instruments, exploring new harmonies and the concept of melodies outside Western standards. Performed on a Pipa (a four-stringed plucked chordophone) and Erhu (a Chinese two-stringed bowed musical instrument also referred to as spike fiddle), combined with piano and guitar, the ensemble brings diversity in styles, creating a unique texture and approach to sound.
When white light passes through a prism, it refracts into colorful lights. Using traditional Chinese instruments, the concert ‘Prism’ brings diverse songs, including pieces from different ethnic groups in China, telling stories from the early Tang dynasty (about 1400 years ago) to recent years. This new possibility comes to explore music beyond each traditional location and the fruitful combination of making music beyond a single universe. - VenueMusic Building Room 101 (MUB 101)
