- DescriptionThe University of Florida (UF) will soon welcome two new large-scale ant sculptures to campus. On loan from American artist Susan P. Cochran and presented as part of UF’s Creative B initiative, the yearlong temporary installation of “X” and “O” (each standing at 6’9” x 10’ x 6’8”) will be installed on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 outside of the Florida Museum of Natural History. Established in 2010, Creative B is a summer program for students at UF that consolidates the collective resources and talents of the many creative programs at UF. This year’s Creative B public artist is Susan P. Cochran. Cochran has received international acclaim for her large-scale cast bronze sculptures of ants, earwigs and warriors as well as her life-size interpretation of flora and fauna. Her sense of humor is evident in her bronze Garden Art-as-Furniture series. Cochran’s Ants collection allows the ant, a creature often overlooked, to be rediscovered.
