    Nya, a teacher in an inner-city public high school, is devoted to her students and determined to provide her only son Omari with opportunities she could only dream of. When a controversial incident at his private school upstate threatens Omari’s expulsion, Nya must confront both his anger and her own decisions as a parent. Can she reach him before a world beyond her control pulls him away? Morisseau pens a deeply moving story of a mother’s fight to give her son a future — without turning her back on the community that made him who he is.
